A poet I follow, Andrea Gibson, posted this advice she gave a class in a writing workshop
She said, “Write the one sentence you’re afraid to write”
And the class wrote down and shared their fears (and presumably went on to become great poets)
So I tried it at home and I wrote:
I don’t love anyone
And that was true. But the next sentence was more true and said in my head
Because I couldn’t trust the paper to keep it a secret.
I like the buildup and the kicker of an ending
